10 Month Hybrid Orthodontics

We finished this patient in 10 months using both upper in-house aligners and lower traditional braces. You can see from the before and after that alignment is improved and that the bite has opened significantly (upper front teeth overlap lower front teeth less).

Upper canine to canine veneers made this treatment challenging because traditional braces or even aligner attachments would remove the some glaze (the outermost layer of a veneer that shines) creating dull spots after treatment. To avoid this we decided to use a hybrid approach and only aligners without attachments for the upper teeth. The result speaks for itself. You can see below that veneers were aligned without removing any glaze.

The lower alignment change was dramatic. We completed this transformation with braces and a single tooth extraction (lower right central incisor). We were able to complete space closure efficiently and with upright roots in only 10 months.

The upper alignment is subtle but no less striking! Even small changes add up to a noticeable smile transformation. The upper arch is more symmetric and rounded.

And for the orthodontists (and dentists) out there. We have two Bjork-style structural superimpositions showing what actually happened. The maxillary structural superimposition shows that the upper incisors proclined and intruded slightly. The mandibular structural superimposition shows that the lower incisors proclined and intruded.
