Orthodontic FAQs — Genuine Orthodontics
About Airway Orthodontics
Airway orthodontics is a holistic approach that goes beyond straightening teeth. It focuses on how the jaw, teeth, and airway work together to support proper breathing, sleep quality, and overall health. We use diagnostic tools like CBCT imaging to assess airway space and design treatment plans that address both the smile and the airway.
Airway-focused orthodontics can play a supportive role. By expanding the jaw and aligning the teeth and bite, we can help improve nasal breathing and reduce oral airway resistance — factors linked to sleep-disordered breathing in children and some adults. We work collaboratively with sleep physicians and ENTs when needed.
Palate (or palatal) expansion widens the upper jaw using a custom appliance to create more space for teeth and to improve nasal airway space. It’s most effective while jaw growth is occurring — typically before age 14 — and is commonly recommended for children with crossbites, crowding, or airway restrictions.
Starting Treatment
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation by age 7. At this stage, our doctors can identify developing bite issues, crowding, or airway concerns — and Phase 1 treatment, if needed, can guide jaw growth at the ideal time, reducing the complexity of later treatment.
Your first visit includes a comprehensive exam, CBCT imaging, and a 3D tooth scan. These diagnostics allow us to build a treatment plan tailored to your unique anatomy and goals. We’ll walk you through every option and answer all your questions before you decide anything.

Treatment Options
Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires bonded to the teeth and work continuously. Clear aligners (like Invisalign) are removable trays changed every 1–2 weeks. Braces are often more effective for complex tooth movements; aligners offer more flexibility and are discreet. We’ll recommend the best fit at your consultation.
Absolutely. We treat patients of all ages — children, teens, and adults. Adults are one of the fastest-growing groups seeking orthodontic care, and we offer braces, clear aligners, and airway-focused options that fit adult schedules and lifestyles.
Most patients experience mild soreness for 2–3 days after braces are placed or adjusted, or after switching to a new aligner tray. This is temporary and manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers. Wax can reduce soft-tissue irritation from brackets.
Most patients complete treatment in 12–24 months. The timeline depends on case complexity, compliance with aligners or retainers, and growth (for younger patients). We’ll give you a personalized estimate at your initial consultation.
Cost & Insurance
Treatment costs vary based on the type of treatment, complexity, and length. We offer flexible monthly financing and accept most major insurance plans that include orthodontic benefits. We’ll provide a transparent, full cost breakdown at your consultation.
Yes. Our team verifies your orthodontic benefits and helps you maximize your coverage. For patients with limited or no orthodontic insurance, we offer affordable monthly payment plans with no interest financing options available.
Care & Maintenance
With braces: brush after every meal with a soft-bristle toothbrush, floss daily with a threader or water flosser, and avoid hard or sticky foods. With aligners: remove trays when eating and drinking anything other than water, brush teeth before reinserting. Continue regular dental cleanings throughout treatment.
Braces patients typically visit every 6–10 weeks for wire adjustments. Clear aligner patients often have longer intervals between in-office check-ins. We’ll build a schedule around your treatment plan and your schedule.
Yes — always. Retainers preserve your results. After active treatment, we provide custom retainers and recommend nightly wear long-term. Teeth shift naturally over time, and consistent retainer use is what protects your smile for life.
